PNP chief plans bus marshals to curb transport violence

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda plans to reintroduce bus marshals following recent incidents of violence on public transport.

Acorda cited the killing of two individuals inside a public utility bus in Nueva Ecija as one reason for this initiative and emphasized coordination with transport companies ahead of the Christmas season.

During Senate plenary deliberations on the PNP’s proposed budget for 2024, senators raised concerns about recent killings and crime rates, with Sen. Sonny Angara noting an increase in homicide cases despite a general decrease in overall crimes.
