PNP chief orders audit, policy review after appointment

Acting Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez on Wednesday ordered an audit of all PNP units and a review of deployment policies following his appointment.

Nartatez said the audit would cover all positions within the PNP, though he did not provide specifics on timing or who would conduct it.

He also confirmed that some reassignments will be implemented, starting with appointing a new spokesperson from the Public Information Office (PIO), which is currently headed by Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño.

Former PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III was relieved of his duties due to his controversial Aug. 6 revamp order, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

Nartatez vowed to comply with the National Police Commission's resolution recalling Torre's revamp order and said some high-ranking officials affected by it will return to their posts.

Torre had previously disregarded Napolcom’s resolution invalidating his reassignment of PNP officials, including appointing Nartatez to a different position.
