PNP arrests two Chinese nationals for using IMSI catcher in Bulacan

Law enforcers arrested two Chinese nationals on Wednesday in Primavera Homes, Brgy. Sabang, Baliuag, Bulacan.

The suspects were found with an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) catcher, a device used for intercepting messages from communication gadgets like cellphones.

Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the IMSI catcher poses a significant threat to individual privacy and national security.

The operation was based on reports of possible espionage involving foreign nationals.

With the confiscation of these devices, authorities aim to prevent cybercrimes and the misuse of intercepted information.

The suspects will be charged with violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 at the National Prosecution Office.
