PNP-ACG arrests two for selling 1,000 registered SIM cards

Operatives from the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested two individuals in Cavite province for selling 1,000 registered SIM cards online.

During a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday, PNP-ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang revealed that the suspects, identified as 'Kaye' and 'Roy,' were apprehended during an operation in Imus town on Wednesday.

Yang stated that the suspects purchased the SIM cards for PHP15 each and sold them online for PHP20 each, suggesting their potential use in text blaster machines to commit cybercrimes.

The ACG chief emphasized that unauthorized sale of registered SIM cards hinders efforts to trace and prevent cybercrime activities.

Both suspects are now facing charges under the SIM Registration Act of 2022 and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, with investigations ongoing in coordination with telecom companies.

Yang urged the public to report any similar illegal activities to support enforcement of the SIM Registration Act.
