PN ready to protect oil exploration in WPS

The Philippine Navy (PN) is prepared to protect oil exploration and drilling activities in the West Philippine Sea from foreign interference.

Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, PN spokesperson for the WPS, stated during a press briefing that naval forces are ready to secure any efforts by the national government to exploit natural resources within its exclusive economic zone.

Asked about specific security measures, Trinidad confirmed that these would include standing naval and air patrols but did not provide further details.

Under Malampaya Phase 4, Noble Viking is set to drill three new wells as part of extending the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power Project, which has been a key component of the country's energy supply.

Trinidad emphasized that the Navy will provide full protection to any party working with the Philippine government and safeguard against interference from foreign powers.

The drilling campaign aims to augment the capacity of the country's only natural gas field.
