PLDT launches 'Fiber Always On' with LTE backup

Telco giant PLDT has launched the country's first 'uninterrupted' broadband service called 'Fiber Always On,' ensuring continuous internet connectivity by switching from fiber to LTE in case of disruption.

The hybrid modem, part of PLDT Home Broadband Product Management, automatically switches to an LTE backup connection provided by Smart, PLDT’s sister company, if a fiber line is cut or disrupted.

PLDT Senior Vice President Jeremiah De La Cruz noted that the service will send automatic triggers to PLDT upon detecting a line problem, ensuring prompt repair and minimal interruption for users.

The 'Always On' broadband service costs P299 per month and provides unlimited data depending on location. Subscribers also receive priority for repairs when an interruption occurs.

PLDT has allocated up to PHP 78 billion this year to upgrade its fiber network, data centers, and submarine cables, emphasizing the importance of seamless connectivity as a necessity rather than a convenience.
