Philippines warns over Middle East tensions, safeguards 3M OFWs

The Philippines expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

With around 3 million Filipino workers in the region, including approximately 30,000 in Israel and over 1,180 in Iran, the DFA emphasized the government's commitment to their safety and welfare.

The Philippine government has assured that contingency measures are in place to safeguard overseas Filipinos as tensions continue to escalate, with Jordan remaining under Alert Level 1 while Alert Level 3 remains for those in Israel and Iran.

Amid ongoing developments, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) are closely monitoring the situation, facilitating repatriation efforts, and maintaining active coordination with local authorities to ensure the safety of Filipinos in Jordan, Israel, and Iran.

The Philippine embassy is considering alternate routes for Filipino repatriates from Israel through Egypt or the Mediterranean in case of further escalation, while also assisting Filipino seafarers whose vessels are docked in Iranian ports.

Filipinos in affected areas are encouraged to reach out to embassy hotlines for assistance, with the DFA and DMW remaining vigilant and prepared to act swiftly as tensions continue to evolve.
