Philippines calls for Gaza ceasefire amid crisis

The Philippines has urgently called for an end to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza amid continuing conflict.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) joined the international community's appeal for Israel to accept a ceasefire proposal to protect civilians and revive peace efforts.

The DFA expressed deep concern over recent developments including planned military takeover by Israel, restrictions on humanitarian aid, large-scale displacement, attacks affecting civilians, and settlement expansion in the West Bank.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously condemned continued attacks on Gaza, emphasizing that the humanitarian cost is unacceptable.

Last week, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres renewed his appeal for a ceasefire warning of 'massive death and destruction' if a full assault on Gaza City occurs.
