DTI orders mall operators to waive rents for closed stores

DTI has asked mall operators and commercial landlords to waive rents for stores that are forced to close during the month-long Metro Manila quarantine.

The DTI issued a memorandum stating that lessors must share responsibility by waiving rental fees and charges for closed stores during the one-month period of General Community Quarantine.

Mall operations will be limited to establishments offering basic necessities such as supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, health clinics, bookstores, hardware stores, and food stalls providing takeout and delivery services only.

Business process outsourcing offices inside malls are allowed to continue operations while other non-essential businesses like night clubs, bars, casinos, and entertainment venues must close.
