Philippine soccer team needs big win vs Vietnam to stay in AFC Cup contention

The Philippines men's national soccer team must secure a significant victory against Vietnam on Wednesday night at Rizal Memorial Stadium to remain in contention for the Asean Mitsubishi Electric Cup semifinals.

Currently third in Group B with two points, the Philippines need a win to catch up with second-place Indonesia and narrow the gap from leaders Vietnam who have six points after back-to-back wins.

Philippine forward Alex Monis expressed confidence ahead of the match, stating that his team is not intimidated by Vietnam's reputation as giants in Southeast Asia.

Monis emphasized the importance of playing their best football and giving everything on the field to achieve a result similar to the historic 2-0 win against Vietnam in Hanoi in 2010.

A victory would put the Philippines just one point behind Vietnam, setting up a crucial final match against Indonesia on Saturday for a chance to advance to the semifinals.
