PNP reports 62% drop in index crimes, seizing PHP35.6B worth of drugs

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a 62 percent decrease in index crime rates across the country from July 1, 2022 to July 28, 2024.

Crimes against persons dropped by 55.69%, with significant reductions of 11,641 in murders, 2,420 in homicides, and 34,966 in physical injuries.

Property crimes such as robbery, theft, and carnapping also saw a decline from 124,799 cases to 41,420 during the same period, representing a 66.81 percent reduction.

Crime clearance efficiency improved by 27.13 percent while crime solution efficiency increased by 10.28 percent.

The PNP seized illegal drugs valued at PHP35.6 billion and apprehended 122,309 individuals involved in drug-related offenses since intensifying its anti-drug campaign.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin refuted former President Rodrigo Duterte's claim of rising crime rates during his appearance at a congressional inquiry on Monday.
