Philippine women's volleyball team secures silver at AVC Nations Cup

The Philippine women's volleyball team secured a silver medal at the Asian Volleyball Confederation Women's Volleyball Nations Cup on Saturday night, finishing second to host Vietnam.

Coach Jorge Souza De Brito praised his team's performance and expressed optimism about their future progress in the Southeast Asian Games later this year.

Captain Jia de Guzman emphasized that while achieving greater heights is a goal, the team remains focused on overcoming challenges to reach the top of volleyball in Asia.

The silver medal marks significant growth for Philippine volleyball since the Philippine National Volleyball Federation took over in 2021, with players like Jia de Guzman, Angel Canino, and Dell Palomata receiving individual accolades.

Vietnam coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet acknowledged the Philippine team's strong performance and predicted that they will be a serious contender in future competitions.

The squad is preparing for two legs of the fifth SEA V.League next month and in August before focusing on the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December, where expectations are high.
