Philippine, US NSAs discuss South China Sea, alliance cooperation

The strong military alliance between the Philippines and the United States was highlighted following an introductory phone call between National Security Advisers Eduardo Año and Mike Waltz on Friday.

During their discussion, both officials exchanged views on recent developments in their bilateral relationship and regional security issues, particularly focusing on the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea.

They also agreed to continue their discussions at the working level to further enhance cooperation and accelerate progress in the alliance.

The National Security Council (NSC) statement noted that future activities aimed to increase collaboration between both nations.

Año thanked Waltz for reaffirming the United States' commitment to the Philippines, emphasizing the importance of engaging with other like-minded partners to ensure a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
