Philippine ag sector declines in 2024; poultry up 6.6%

The Philippine agricultural sector faced significant challenges in 2024, with declines observed across livestock, fisheries, and crops amid climate impacts like La Niña.

Despite these setbacks, poultry production saw a notable increase of 6.6% for the year.

Experts attribute the downturn to factors including extreme weather conditions affecting crop yields and livestock health, as well as lingering effects from diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF).

The growth in poultry was driven by stronger domestic demand and shorter production cycles, although concerns over excessive imports are noted.
