PhilHealth reminds public of rabies benefit package

PhilHealth reminded the public about its rabies benefit package on Friday following recent animal bite incidents.

The package covers a fixed amount of PHP5,850 for treatment which includes rabies vaccine, immune globulin, wound care, tetanus toxoid, antibiotics, and supplies like syringes and alcohol.

PhilHealth members can avail the package at Animal Bite Treatment Centers or accredited health facilities.

From January to May 17 this year, DOH recorded 124 rabies cases, marking a 32 percent decrease from last year's 183 cases.

Despite the reduction in cases, the DOH continues to emphasize awareness on prevention and treatment due to the disease's 100 percent fatality rate.

Pet owners are encouraged to vaccinate their cats and dogs against rabies, with local government units offering free anti-rabies shots under the Rabies Control Act.
