PhilHealth launches life-long benefit for kidney transplants, supports living donors

PhilHealth launched a new benefit package on Thursday to support kidney transplant patients, providing financial coverage that applies for life for immunosuppressive medications and drug prophylaxis with higher allowances for pediatric patients than adults.

Living donors will receive PHP1,900 bi-annually for laboratory procedures and monitoring under both benefit packages.

According to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), kidney transplantation remains the gold standard in treating chronic kidney disease despite other available treatments.

PhilHealth assured support for living kidney donors, emphasizing their significant contributions to public health.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited dialysis patients with CKD and post-kidney transplant patients at NKTI earlier on Thursday, announcing the expanded Z Benefit package.
