PDEA chemist joins TIAFT AI Task Force to assess forensic toxicology integration

A forensic chemist from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Nieves Manuela Barbo, has been selected as a member of an International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT) Task Force.

The task force was established to assess the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into forensic toxicology during the recent TIAFT General Assembly in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Barbo, who works at PDEA's Laboratory Service, one of the country's leading drug forensic centers, will collaborate with other international experts on this initiative.

PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez highlighted that Barbo's inclusion demonstrates the agency's commitment to global competence and innovation.

The TIAFT AI Task Force aims to evaluate current AI applications in toxicological analysis, considering factors such as accuracy, efficiency, ethical concerns, and skill gaps.

Nerez emphasized PDEA's dedication to advancing forensic science through international collaboration and supporting President Marcos Jr.'s 'Bagong Pilipinas' agenda.
