PCIC gives PHP1.95M indemnity checks to 174 Benguet farmers

A total of 174 vegetable farmers in Benguet received PHP1.95 million in indemnity checks from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) on Thursday, following losses due to weather disturbances in July.

The distribution event at the Benguet Provincial Engineering Office was attended by PCIC officials and Senator Francis Pangilinan.

Dinah Labi, a lettuce farmer who lost 90 percent of her mature crops, received assistance that will help settle her loans incurred for recovery.

PCIC President Jovy Bernabe emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the benefits of registering with PCIC and RSBSA, noting only 12,000 out of 60,000 Cordillera farmers are registered.

Senator Pangilinan vowed to push for extending PCIC's corporate life and securing a bigger budget allocation to better support vulnerable farmers affected by weather damage.
