PCG responds to floating barriers at Panatag Shoal, AFP stands ready to assist

The Philippine Coast Guard is responding to floating barriers installed by Chinese maritime militia in Panatag Shoal, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has offered support if needed.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that details of the PCG's operations cannot be disclosed to the public while expressing trust in their ability to handle the situation.

Chinese vessels installed a floating barrier at the southeast entrance of Bajo de Masinloc on Monday, March 24, to prevent Philippine vessels from entering the shoal during a maritime domain awareness flight.

Commodore Jay Tarriela noted that Chinese vessels typically install barriers when they detect PCG or Filipino fishing vessel activity in the area.

Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad assured readiness for AFP assistance if required by the Coast Guard.
