DOTr bans tricycles in Luzon; Sotto allows for limited ops

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has banned tricycles in Luzon due to social distancing concerns amid the enhanced community quarantine.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto allowed tricycles to continue operating, citing health workers and people with medical emergencies who lack alternative transportation.

Netizens rallied behind Sotto using the hashtag #ProtectVico, while Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles rejected Sotto's appeal, stating that social distancing cannot be practiced in tricycles.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) warned that exempting Pasig’s tricycles would encourage other cities to seek exemptions and defeat the purpose of the lockdown.

Sotto has issued guidelines for limited tricycle operations within Pasig, emphasizing health workers' mobility needs.
