Panelo advises Duterte to run for mayor then VP in 2028

Former President Duterte's spokesperson, Rommel Panelo, advised the former president to run for mayor of Davao City in 2025 and seek the vice presidency alongside his daughter Sara Duterte in 2028 during a press conference.

Panelo suggested that Duterte first run as mayor before pursuing a vice presidential bid, emphasizing that a Duterte-Dutero tandem would likely bring back supporters who had turned away from them and increase their chances of victory.

Former President Duterte remains open to the idea but has not directly accepted or rejected Panelo's suggestion. He instructed Panelo to continue promoting it.

Vice President Sara Duterte, however, announced her father and brother Paolo Duterte's plan to run for senator in next year’s elections on June 25.

In April, the former president expressed opposition against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s push for Charter change, believing it is a usual excuse to amend other provisions beyond economic ones.
