Palace pledges P1M aid for nurse who died of COVID-19

The Duterte government promised on Friday, August 14, to provide P1 million in compensation to the family of Maria Theresa Cruz, a nurse from Cainta who died of COVID-19 before receiving her hazard pay.

DILG spokesman Jonathan Malaya said the government will ensure that Cruz's family receives all benefits provided under the law.

Palace spokesperson Harry Roque assured on Thursday that the financial assistance would be expedited and personally ensured Cruz's compensation as mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.

Roque also vowed to prevent delays in the release of hazard pay for medical front-liners following reports of similar issues.
