Palace reviewing call for state of economic emergency

Malacañang is reviewing calls for President Duterte to declare a state of economic emergency due to rising petroleum prices caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Albay Rep. Joey Salceda urged Duterte to declare a state of economic emergency, allowing LGUs to use calamity funds to address fuel price increases.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua presented 14 recommendations during Duterte’s Talk to the People on Monday night to mitigate the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Duterte supported Chua’s proposals and invited lawmakers to discuss with his economic team.

The Palace will thoroughly review these interventions through the Office of the Executive Secretary to determine if they are sufficient.
