QC reimposes liquor ban under MECQ

Quezon City reimposed a liquor ban from August 4 to 18 as Metro Manila reverted to a stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Mayor Joy Belmonte signed Executive Order No. 35, which bans the sale, distribution, and consumption of liquor during the MECQ period.

The order cites that gatherings due to alcohol consumption contribute to the spread of COVID-19.

Under section 1 of EO 35, no person or establishment shall be allowed to sell or distribute alcoholic beverages during the MECQ period.

President Duterte reimposed MECQ over Metro Manila and neighboring areas in response to medical groups' call for a two-week 'timeout'.

The Palace stated that liquor bans are decided by local government units based on their ordinances.
