CIDG investigates PAGCOR official’s baseless claims about ex-PNP chief

On Monday, the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) clarified that PAGCOR official Raul Villanueva stated his claims about a former PNP chief being linked to Alice Guo were baseless rumors.

Villanueva will make an announcement regarding the matter on Tuesday, following which CIDG chief PMGen. Leo Francisco initially stated that the PNP would cease its investigation into the claims due to a lack of evidence but later clarified that the probe continues.

During a Senate hearing, Villanueva mentioned receiving reports that a former PNP chief was part of Guo's payroll and helped her leave the country but stressed that this information is still being verified.

Former PNP chiefs have condemned Villanueva’s remark and dared him to name the alleged official involved in Guo's escape, while CIDG continues its investigation into unverified claims involving government personnel who may have assisted Guo in her departure.

CIDG chief PMGen. Leo Francisco said they are still studying if they would file a complaint against Villanueva over his statement before the Senate panel.
