Pagasa issues storm surge warning for parts of Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Sur due to Tropical Storm Crising

Storm surge warnings were issued for parts of Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur due to Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha), according to Pagasa.

The weather bureau reported a 'minimal to moderate risk' of storm surges with heights ranging from 1 to 2 meters affecting multiple coastal towns in the next 24 hours.

Residents are advised to take extra precautions because high waves may cause minimal to moderate damage to communities and disrupt marine activities.

Pagasa urged people living in coastal areas, particularly those in affected municipalities like Basco, Itbayat, Ivana, Mahatao, Sabtang, Uyugan, Bacarra, Badoc, Bangui, Burgos, Currimao, Laoag City, Pagudpud, Paoay, Pasuquin, Cabugao, Caoayan, Vigan, Magsingal, Narvacan, San Juan (Lapog), San Vicente, Santa, Santa Catalina, Santo Domingo, Sinait, and others to move to higher ground and suspend all marine activities.

Tropical Storm Crising is moving north-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness up to 90 kph, expected to make landfall in Babuyan Islands on Friday night and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning or afternoon.

PAGASA also advises continuous monitoring of advisories for possible expanded warnings.
