Dams opened due to Carina, Habagat; flood warnings issued

Floodgates at Ipo and Binga dams were opened on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall caused by Super Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), with some gates of Ambuklao and Binga dams remaining open as of Saturday morning.

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, three gates of the Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan were partially open; however, by Saturday morning, its water level had dropped to 100.99 meters.

As of Saturday morning, Ambuklao Dam had one gate open at 0.50 meters and Binga Dam had two gates open at 1 meter, with both dams' water levels near their spilling levels.

PAGASA warned that several areas across the country are experiencing heavy rains and advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, as Metro Manila and other provinces were placed under a state of calamity due to flooding.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning according to PAGASA.
