PAF deploys Sokol helicopter to aid typhoon-hit Batanes

The Philippine Air Force deployed its W-3A 'Sokol' helicopter on Wednesday for a second time to deliver emergency goods and personnel to typhoon-hit Batanes.

This mission, coordinated with the Office of Civil Defense and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), aimed to provide humanitarian assistance in Itbayat, Batanes, which was severely affected by Super Typhoon Julian last week.

The helicopter transported DSWD staff to distribute cash aid to affected communities and ensure access to essential supplies such as food and clean water.

PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo highlighted the Air Force's commitment to supporting government relief efforts during critical periods, emphasizing that these coordinated efforts are crucial in ensuring residents have access to necessary resources.

The 'Sokol' helicopter is under the operational control of Tactical Operations Group (TOG) 2 under the Tactical Operations Wing Northern Luzon (TOWNOL), underscoring the importance of such joint military exercises for humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
