Oriental Mindoro Gov Dolor criticizes substandard flood project materials

Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito 'Bonz' Dolor was barred from inspecting a collapsed flood dike in Naujan town on Saturday but eventually gained access.

During his inspection, Dolor expressed dismay at the substandard materials used in recent flood control projects that collapsed during the southwest monsoon last July.

The governor criticized the P1 billion project in Barangay Tagumpay for using thin concrete and mostly sand with only one metal rod as reinforcement, calling it wasteful.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a review of flood control projects across the country following Dolor's concerns.

Engr. Gerald Pacanan, DPWH Mimaropa Regional Director, confirmed that an investigation would be conducted to determine if there were any lapses in construction standards.

At least five major flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro have collapsed, mostly along the Bucayao River and the Mag-Asawang Tubig River in Naujan.
