Online gambling operators oppose total ban, push for stronger regulation

Licensed online gambling operators in the Philippines reiterated their opposition to a total ban on Wednesday, July 9.

The operators argue that prohibition would push players towards illegal sites where safeguards are absent and emphasize that regulated platforms support public services and contribute to economic growth through license fees and job creation.

Since 2024, government collections from online gaming licenses have reached P54 billion, funding national projects.

Operators called for stronger regulation rather than a total ban, advocating for measures like tighter age verification and anti-money laundering safeguards to protect players and the economy.

Licensed operators also highlighted that their platforms enforce some of the strictest protections in Asia, including multi-factor authentication and age requirements.
