Petecio, Villegas to receive Women in Sports Awards

Olympic boxing medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas are among the recipients of the 2025 Women in Sports Awards happening on Saturday, March 15, at Century Park Hotel Manila.

The awards ceremony, now in its second year and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Commission for Women, honors female athletes who have brought pride to the country locally and internationally.

Petecio and Villegas will receive Athlete of the Year awards following their bronze medal finishes in the Paris Olympics last year.

The event aims to promote women empowerment and inclusivity, recognizing 136 officials, coaches, and athletes this year, including jiu-jitsu artist Meggie Ochoa who receives a Lifetime Achievement Award despite her young age.

Rachel Dumuk, secretary of the event, highlighted that the awards night also honors Para athletes for their achievements beyond medals.

Philippine Sports Commission Executive Director Paulo Tatad announced during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday that Petecio and Villegas will be honored as Female Athletes of the Year.
