Oil spill reaches Batangas, may hit Puerto Galera

The oil spill from the sunken MT Princess Empress in Oriental Mindoro has reached Batangas, affecting Isla Verde near Batangas City and possibly Puerto Galera.

As of Monday, March 20, the Philippine Coast Guard confirmed that oil sheens are visible on Verde Island’s shoreline with some making landfall.

UP Marine Science Institute warns that northward currents may carry the spill towards Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro from March 20-22 and affect coastal areas in Batangas.
