OCD deploys water truck, team to Negros after Mount Kanlaon eruption

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deployed a water filtration truck and a seven-member rapid deployment team to Negros Occidental on June 6 to assist communities affected by the Mount Kanlaon eruption.

Upon arrival in Negros Occidental at 5 a.m. on Monday, the truck was ready to produce up to 50,000 liters of clean water daily for evacuees from La Carlota city and La Castellana town.

The rapid deployment team will remain in the province for two weeks providing filtration services as rains last week caused lahar flows following the eruption on June 3.

As of Sunday, a total of 1,260 families in Western Visayas and Central Visayas are currently staying in evacuation centers due to the eruption; however, as of Monday, the number decreased to 1,177 families in Western Visayas and 83 families in Central Visayas.

Residents have been warned against drinking water sourced near the volcano, with OCD delivering 4,000 N95 face masks earlier this week to address health risks.
