NU sweeps UST in UAAP Season 86 volleyball finals

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses and Golden Spikers faced off against National University Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs in the UAAP Season 86 men's and women's volleyball championship on Saturday, May 11.

NU emerged victorious with a sweep over UST by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 for the women's team and 25-17, 26-24, 25-19 for the men's team at the packed Araneta Coliseum.

UST coach KungFu Reyes admitted that his team's body language was stiff during Game 1 of the women's match, while Josh Ybañez led UST in the second set of the men’s match with back-to-back kills but NU rallied to take the lead.

NU cornerstone players Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon contributed significantly for the women's team, with Belen scoring 13 points and Solomon adding 17 points; meanwhile, UST's Jonna Perdido scored 17 points and Detdet Pepito had 16 digs in the women’s match.

UST captain Detdet Pepito emphasized the need for her teammates to quickly recover from their loss and focus on Game 2 of both matches, scheduled for Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
