Filipino photojournalist Noel Celis wins World Press Photo award

Seasoned Filipino photojournalist Noel Celis has won the 2025 World Press Photo award for his entry 'Four Storms, 12 Days,' which captures Filipinos evacuating during a series of typhoons in late 2024.

Celis's work, shot for the Associated Press, highlights the challenges faced by communities affected by natural disasters and climate change, depicting both destruction and aftermath.

The photojournalist is among 42 regional winners selected from over 59,320 entries submitted by photographers from 141 countries.

Celis's entry 'Four Storms, 12 Days' documents four cyclones that developed into typhoons in the Philippines during October and November 2024.

Candida Ng, jury chair for the contest's Asia Pacific and Oceania region, emphasized the importance of accurate representation in awarded works.
