NNIC to demolish Philippine Village Hotel, Terminal 4 for Terminal 5

The New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC), the private operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), is set to demolish the abandoned Philippine Village Hotel and Terminal 4 after Holy Week as part of its plan to construct a fifth passenger terminal.

At a press conference on Thursday, NNIC General Manager Lito Alvarez announced that all necessary permits have been secured for both demolitions.

The new Terminal 5 is expected to be completed within two to three years and will accommodate up to 35 million passengers annually.

Alvarez highlighted the urgent need for additional terminal capacity as NAIA currently serves about 51 million passengers per year, far exceeding its designed carrying capacity of 32 to 34 million.

Terminal 4 will be relocated to the International Cargo Terminal due to safety concerns following a recent Jeju Air crash in South Korea.

In addition, NNIC is procuring new equipment such as self-bag drops and biometrics systems to improve passenger experience by September.
