Negros Occidental’s provincial FB page hacked, officials implement new security protocols

The official Facebook page of Negros Occidental's provincial government was hacked on Tuesday, displaying inappropriate photos of half-naked women.

Provincial officials regained control of the compromised page by Wednesday morning following a request sent to Meta, the operator of Facebook.

Charina Magallanes-Tan, head of the Public Information Office, stated that they will implement new security protocols for their social media accounts after this incident.

The provincial government has filed complaints with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center to investigate the hacking.

Previously in August last year, hackers also gained unauthorized access to the Facebook page of former Negros Occidental representative Jose Francisco Benitez, uploading inappropriate content before access was restored.
