NegOr reports low booster shot turnout, targets kids for vaccination

The province of Negros Oriental is reporting low turnout for Covid-19 booster shots despite vaccine availability.

As of February 27, only 60,821 individuals have received their third shot since the province started giving boosters late last year.

This represents a small percentage of those fully vaccinated in the province, with a total of 529,859 people being fully vaccinated.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion noted that many people appear uninterested in getting additional doses three months after their second dose.

The province is also targeting an initial 196,226 children aged 5 to 11 for vaccination, with only 2.8 percent of the target vaccinated as of March 1.

Negros Oriental remains under Alert Level 2 community quarantine status from March 1-15 due to a drop in cases and low senior citizen vaccination rates.
