NBI seizes PHP55M in counterfeit luxury items

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized over PHP55 million worth of counterfeit luxury items across Metro Manila following complaints from legal firms representing Oakley, Gucci, and Yves Saint Laurent.

On May 6, NBI agents raided an online store in Parañaque City, confiscating 1,083 fake Oakley products valued at PHP3.55 million.

The next day, additional raids were conducted in Binondo and Malabon, seizing 1,024 counterfeit Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent items worth approximately PHP51.65 million.

These operations were part of a crackdown on trademark infringement and unfair competition under Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago praised the success of these enforcement activities and warned consumers against purchasing counterfeit goods to protect intellectual property rights and support economic growth.
