NBI developing strategies to combat fake news, warns Maharlika

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced on Thursday it is developing strategies to combat fake news and disinformation, including actions against entities operating outside the Philippines.

During a press conference, NBI Director Jaime Santiago emphasized that they will investigate these activities seriously and have already identified several trolls linked to prominent personalities.

One target is 'Maharlika,' an anonymous blogger accused of spreading false information, such as falsely claiming the First Lady was detained in the U.S.

Santiago warned Maharlika to prepare for legal action, stating that being outside the country does not guarantee safety from investigation and public anger.

The NBI director urged bloggers to refrain from using online platforms for malicious commentary, reminding them that freedom of speech has limits.
