NBI keeps expelled lawmaker Teves despite court order

Expelled Negros Oriental lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr. will remain in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) despite a Manila court's order for his transfer to jail.

Teves faces multiple cases in different courts, leading the NBI to hold him temporarily at its detention facility inside the New Bilibid Prison.

National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago said Wednesday that a Manila court has ordered Teves' transfer to the Manila City Jail but halted it due to pending cases in various courts.

Santiago assured that they will wait for the final decision from the Manila courts before determining where to turn over Teves, emphasizing the need to protect and ensure his rights as a detainee.

Teves is scheduled to appear on Thursday at Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 12 for arraignment and pre-trial proceedings regarding charges of illegal possession of explosives.
