NBI investigates media for alleged sedition

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago stated on Tuesday that they are investigating some mainstream media members who allegedly incite public sedition.

Santiago said during an interview on Super Radyo dzBB that these individuals have exceeded their professional boundaries by creating disturbances and urging people to commit sedition.

The NBI chief did not specify the number of media personnel under investigation but noted that they appear to be abusing their freedom of speech.

He cited examples where critics are going beyond acceptable limits, such as when they verbally abuse or spread false information about government officials.

Santiago's remarks follow an earlier statement from the NBI on Monday regarding an investigation into 20 vloggers accused of spreading fake news in the country.

The NBI is examining whether there are individuals orchestrating these activities and looking into why certain themes dominate current vlogging content.

Director Santiago emphasized that going beyond legal parameters can result in severe consequences for those involved.
