NBI arrests 8 Chinese nationals in online phishing scam

Eight Chinese nationals suspected of online phishing operations were arrested in Parañaque City by the National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday.

The NBI identified the suspects as Xiao Li, Chuan Zi Gao, Ming Ru Li, Wen Shu Liu, Qui Shun Li, Cai Li Pan, Changfu Liu, and Zhang Zhen.

These individuals are accused of engaging in investment fraud, crypto asset/currency scams, romance scams, and identity theft using social engineering techniques.

On January 14, a warrant to search, seize, and examine computer data was granted by the Regional Trial Court of Parañaque City against the group.

NBI operatives, along with representatives from the Digital Forensic Laboratory, executed the warrant on January 17 and found evidence of phishing schemes and financial transactions related to crypto currency scams.

Charges under Republic Act No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act) and RA 12010 (Anti Financial Account Scamming Act) were filed against the suspects at the Parañaque City Prosecutors' Office.
