NBI confirms VP Duterte's assassination threat video

On Sunday, November 24, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the authenticity of a video in which Vice President Sara Duterte allegedly threatened to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez assassinated if she were killed.

In an interview with INQUIRER.net, NBI Director Jaime Santiago stated that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla instructed the NBI to verify the authenticity of Duterte's video after Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and the Presidential Security Command called for an investigation into her threats.

During a virtual press conference on Saturday, Vice President Duterte clarified that her statement about assassination was not intended as a threat but rather in response to the House of Representatives' decision to transfer her chief of staff from a detention facility.

The Department of Justice has received the NBI Cybercrime Division's report regarding the video’s authenticity and an investigation is ongoing.

In light of these developments, the Presidential Security Command (PSC) and the Philippine National Police have heightened security measures considering Duterte's claims as a matter of national security.
