NBI conducts surprise drug tests on 230 Baguio City Jail personnel and detainees

On Friday morning, forensic experts from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted surprise drug tests on all 80 personnel and 150 detainees at the Baguio City Jail.

The mandatory and random testing aims to promote a drug-free workplace and prevent illegal drugs from being smuggled into the facility.

Baguio City Jail Warden, Jail Chief Inspector John Wayland Lapon, noted that jail officers undergo quarterly drug tests as mandated policy.

NBI chemist Ruel Huerno explained that the test kits can detect traces of marijuana and methamphetamine hydrochloride in urine samples.

Since the initiative began in 2022, no positive results have been recorded at BCJ.
