MPAV inaugurates largest Philippine greenhouse complex in San Rafael

Metro Pacific Agro Ventures Inc. (MPAV), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp., inaugurated Phase 1 of Metro Pacific Fresh Farms (MPFF) in San Rafael, Bulacan on Tuesday, marking the largest greenhouse complex in the Philippines with six greenhouses covering 3.5 hectares.

The facility promises annual production of up to 500 metric tons of fresh vegetables using advanced technologies such as nutrient film technique and drip irrigation systems, which require 90% less water and land than traditional farming methods.

MPAV CEO Jovy Hernandez announced plans to expand the San Rafael site to seven hectares by mid-2026, aiming for an annual capacity of up to 1,000 metric tons, while also establishing ten satellite farms across the country over the next decade.

Hernandez noted that demand has been robust with some supermarket customers requesting private tours and MPAV aims to sell their produce directly to consumers and businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and resorts.

The greenhouses are designed to withstand typhoons up to Signal No. 4 strength and use less chemical pesticides and fertilizers, reducing contamination exposure by 90-99%, aligning with the Marcos administration's food security goals.
