Meralco removes illegal cables in Makati

Meralco is stepping up its efforts to remove unsightly and potentially dangerous cables from cable TV and internet service providers in Makati City.

The company has already cleared over 50 tons of unauthorized cables, which were installed illegally during the pandemic and pose a threat to electric post integrity.

Makati Mayor Nancy Binay supports Meralco's campaign and emphasized that all wire installations require permits from local government units to prevent accidents such as fires.

Meanwhile, Meralco is awaiting a decision from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on its joint motion with First Gen for an interim extension of their power supply agreement until January 31, 2026.

The ERC's decision will determine whether there will be enough electricity supply and avoid potential higher rates or reduced power supply for Luzon.
