Marcos stresses open trade, digital literacy at ASEAN summit

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. emphasized during the ASEAN Leaders Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council that trade regulations should not become barriers.

Marcos stressed the importance of strategic trade management to ensure secure and smooth flow of goods and services within the region, assuring the private sector of ASEAN's commitment amid global trade tensions.

The Philippine President highlighted the need for a stable economic environment, reassuring stakeholders about ASEAN's dedication to dialogue and cooperation despite ongoing policy uncertainties.

Marcos underscored the Philippines' dedication to fostering a united, visionary, and inclusive ASEAN community, welcoming the regional bloc's consensus to avoid retaliation and engage in dialogue with the United States.

He also emphasized the importance of investing in people through digital literacy programs as a foundation for progress, noting the critical role of MSMEs in advancing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement.

The president supported the AI Engagement Platform, which aims to ensure that technological advancements benefit all segments of society across ASEAN, and expressed support for establishing an ASEAN Centre of Excellence for AI based on innovation, ethical standards, and transparency.

Marcos also commended the council's efforts in building a dynamic workforce through initiatives like the ASEAN Talent Development and Mobility Initiative.
