Marcos orders probe into disappearance of 34 cockfighters

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough investigation into the disappearances of 34 cockfighting enthusiasts reported missing from 2021 to 2022.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated that the President wants a deep probe to identify those involved and ensure accountability, emphasizing the need for substantial evidence such as photos and videos to support witness testimonies.

A key witness has claimed that around 20 police officers were allegedly behind the abduction and killing of over a hundred cockfight enthusiasts, with victims reportedly buried in Taal Lake pending further verification by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ is evaluating potential state witnesses and has tapped the Philippine Coast Guard and Navy divers to locate remains in Taal Lake.

Philippine National Police chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said the PNP's Internal Affairs Service will collaborate with Napolcom to address potential disciplinary actions against involved officers.
