Marcos orders free MRT-LRT rides due to severe weather

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered free rides on MRT-3 and both LRT lines in Metro Manila starting noon on Friday, August 22.

The Department of Transportation encouraged students and workers to use the free train services due to school suspensions caused by severe weather conditions.

By 1:07 p.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reported that flooding had subsided in some areas but several roads remained impassable for light vehicles.

Cleared areas included EDSA Shaw Tunnel NB, Ortigas La Salle Gate 6 WB, and EDSA Roxas NB, while Buendia World Trade Center and other locations were still flooded and not passable to all or light vehicles.

Motorists are advised to avoid severely flooded roads such as those near Ospital ng Maynila and areas surrounding Roxas Boulevard, which remain passable only to certain types of vehicles.
